Police United F.C. Claims Their 1st Tournament Championship!

After having having had to settle for nothing but bridesmaid status since the PLB commenced competition, Police United F.C. finally broke through to claim the PLB’s 2015/16 Opening Tournament Championship.  The 0-0 draw on Sunday, December 27, meant that Police could finally call themselves Champions, courtesy of a 1-0 goal aggregate after taking the 1st game against Verdes, 1-0.

Seeded 2nd coming into the Playoffs, the Police team dispatched their semi-final opponents, Placencia Assassins, despite losing the 1st leg of the home and away series, 2-1.  Nonetheless they bounced back the following week with a 2-0 victory, booking their place in the Finals on a 3-2 aggregate score.  The Opening Tournament Championship means that Police United is now in the driver’s seat where CONCACAF 2016/17 qualification is concerned.

2015/16 Opening Tournament Finals Matchup Set!

Earlier this evening, Police United FC overcame a 2-1 goal aggregate deficit with a 2-nil win over the Placencia Assassins to book their spot in the 2015/16 Opening Tournament Finals Matchup.  Police had come into the playoffs seeded #2 after finishing the regular season with 19 points but lost their 1st playoff game, 2-1, last Saturday night in Independence to the Assassins.  Their victory today however, sent them into the Finals on a 3-2 aggregate.

Their opponents this time around will be the defending Closing Tournament champions, Verdes FC, who eliminated arch-rivals Belmopan Bandits with a 1-1 draw last night in Belmopan, advancing on a 3-1 aggregate advantage.  The 1st game of the Finals comes up on Sunday, December 20th at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
